Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal information My Discounts Direct collects when you visit mydiscountsdirect.com or buy from us, how we use it, and your rights.
Who we are
My Discounts Direct is a trading name of Northern Marketing Services Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 06822243), with its registered office at Unit A8 Scholefield Mill, Brunswick Street, Nelson, BB9 0HU. For anything about your personal information, email mail@mydiscountsdirect.co.uk.
We are the "controller" of your personal information under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
What we collect
- Order details: your name, delivery and billing address, email address, phone number (if you give it) and what you bought. Card payments are handled by our payment providers. We don't see or store your full card details.
- Account details: if you create an account, your login details and order history.
- Messages: anything you send us by email or through our contact form.
- Newsletter: your email address, if you sign up for our deals emails.
- Website use: information about your device and how you use our site, such as pages viewed, collected through cookies and similar technologies (see "Cookies" below).
How we use it, and why we're allowed to
- To process and deliver your order and deal with returns and refunds. This is necessary to carry out our contract with you.
- To answer your questions and provide customer service. This is in our legitimate interests in looking after our customers.
- To send you deals emails, only if you've agreed. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
- To keep our site secure, prevent fraud and improve how the site works. This is in our legitimate interests.
- To keep records we're required to keep by law, such as tax and accounting records.
Who we share it with
We only share your information with companies that help us run the shop, and only what they need:
- Shopify, which runs our online shop
- Payment providers, such as Shopify Payments, PayPal and Shop Pay, to take your payment
- Delivery companies, to get your order to you
Shopify also provides us with basic statistics about how our site is used, such as how many people visit and which products are popular (see "Cookies" below). We don’t currently use any other analytics or advertising services. If we start using one, we’ll update this policy first and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights, for example to prevent fraud. We never sell your personal information.
Some of these companies, including Shopify, may process information outside the UK. When they do, they use legal safeguards approved under UK law, such as standard contractual clauses, to protect it.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies on our site. They fall into three groups:
- Essential cookies make the site work, for example remembering what’s in your basket and keeping checkout secure. These are always on.
- Analytics cookies let Shopify give us statistics about how our site is used, such as which pages are visited, so we can improve the shop. We only use these if you agree.
- Marketing cookies would be used to show you relevant adverts. We don’t currently use these. If we start, we’ll only use them if you agree.
When you first visit, our cookie banner lets you accept, decline or choose which cookies to allow. You can change your mind at any time by clearing cookies in your browser; the banner will then appear again on your next visit.
How long we keep it
We keep order records for 6 years because tax law requires it. We keep newsletter details until you unsubscribe. We keep other information only as long as we need it for the reasons above.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- ask us to correct anything that's wrong
- ask us to delete your information (unless we have to keep it by law)
- object to, or ask us to limit, how we use your information
- withdraw your consent to marketing at any time
To use any of these rights, email mail@mydiscountsdirect.co.uk. We'll reply within one month.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
